Born in 1945, Derek is a self taught artist who has painted all his life. With his early influences being the landscape and coastline of his native Tyneside, this created in him a love of open space, long uninhabited beaches and massive, atmospheric skies, which have become his trademark over the last forty years.
Travel is his other love and he spends several months each year visiting different locations which inspire him - Scotland, Portugal, the Bahamas and India being some of his more recent influences.
Derek's paintings are held in both private and corporate collections. Many of these collectors have bought works regularly over Derek's career, testament to the longevity and enduring appeal of the paintings and the emotions they provoke.
